 Reading Drought.
Bah. I've run out of good books while I wait for Kalahari to source some obscure stuff for me, and have been reduced to rereading my dog-eared old Pratchetts to fend off boredom. Hence, a question for you, dear readers: what have you read lately (or not-so-lately) that you can recommend? I'm particularly partial to science fiction and its various allied subgenres, but I'm willing to try anything that grabs the imagination regardless of what pigeonhole people want to put it into...

"Dentist Man"? Sounds odd and worth trying.
Do you have any Iain Bankses that I haven't read yet? I see he has a new Culture novel out. | Posted by: quinn2009/10/14 13:30 |

I'm a huge fan of Jim Butcher. His "Dresden Files" series is probably quirky enough for you, though I prefer the "Codex Alera" series. Ooh! Just remembered the next preview chapter is out...(final book of the series coming in December) ... Just the thing for fending off boredom in Kazakhstan when the Wheel of Time starts to feel like a grind.
PS: I have every Butcher book, so you're welcome to give 'em a try | Posted by: Chris2009/10/14 18:44 |

Have you ever tried Robin Hobb? She is a great story teller, one of my all time favorites. Her first trilogy is lovely, "The Farseer Trilogy". "The Liveship traders" trilogy is better though. I know you dislike trilogies, but this is worth it :-) | Posted by: michael2009/10/15 14:14 |

 Thanks guys, handy suggestions.
Chris: Ah yes! I remember us talking about Jim Butcher's stuff recently. I'd very much like to borrow the first Dresden Files book...
Mike: I'll keep an eye out for some Robin Hobbs, I'll need to check what the first book in each of the series is called though so I know which ones to start with. I have had a few epic fails lately buying books that are halfway through series and then having to scrounge around for the first ones before I can read the one I have ;) | Posted by: quinn2009/10/16 13:15 |

In Chronological order of trilogies :-) (and in my opinion, should be read in this order because of the interlinking story)
Assassin's Apprentice (The Farseer Trilogy - Book 1)
Ship of Magic (The Liveship Traders - Book 1)
Fool's Errand (Tawny Man - Book 1) | Posted by:

It never rains, it pours; my Kalahari order finally went through last weekend so now I'm drowning in reading material. Oh well, it's holidays soon ;-)
By the by, do any of you also use LibraryThing? Chris and Lina gave me a lifetime membership for Xmas, so I'm going to be getting my library there sorted out and updated soon. If anyone else uses it let me know, it greatly facilitates borrowing and lending... | Posted by: quinn2009/11/25 11:53 |
